THE NATURE RESERVE MALINGSBO-KLOTEN

* * * * *

High hills and deep valleys surround a long stretch of paddling water with steep cliffs descend dramatic into the water along narrow stretches. The wilderness is located high and the wildlife is rich. Here we have a lot of moose, deer and beaver but also lynx, wolf, bear are represented. The chance to see lynx, wolf and bear is very small because the animals are in low number and are very shy. Sometimes howling wolfs can be heard at night. Moose, deer and beaver are more common. None of the animals are dangerous

The Nature Reserve Malingsbo-Kloten in southern Dalarna and northern Västmanland is one of the biggest Nature Reserves in Sweden. The beautiful and untouched nature is classified as central Europe's closest wilderness. 2,5 hours journey (200 km) by car or train from the Swedish capital Stockholm

 The canoe trails offer nice canoe trips up to 1,5 week

 The paddling offer a mix of river and lake paddling. River paddling in the respect of narrow water. Lake paddling in the respect of no current water. The paddling in the Nature Reserve suit children and beginners and the fishing is very good. The fish to catch are brown trout, rainbow trout, pike and perch. Fishing licenses are for sale at the Canoe Center. The reserve is very well taken cared of. Along the canoe trails are a great number of rest areas with rain and wind shelters with firm fireplaces in front. There are no charges to camp at rest areas or other places in the reserve. The reserve is recommended for a real wilderness and wildlife experience. The canoe center is located in the heart of the nature reserve in the small village Kloten, between Skinnskatteberg and Kopparberg (along road 233). Road description (link)

Recommended is that you start in Kloten and paddle north along the narrow stretches in Långvattnet. Take left at the turn and find your own way among the islands and bays in the Korslången archipelago. Paddle up to Bredsjön and down to Sörsjön. On your way back you can paddle up to the small village Nyfors and visit the small old time store for some additional supplies. Limited groceries can be bought over the counter. The small store is located right at the water front. Recommend day or two day trip is a round paddling in the archipelago in the lake south of Kloten. This is also where the week paddler keep paddling after covering the waters north of Kloten. Drinking water is to be filled at the tap back home or at the Canoe Center (no charge). The tap water in Sweden is excellent drinking water. The water along the canoe trails are good for cooking. A fresh water spring is located along the canoe trail north of Kloten
